Mitt Romney, who has been battling for airtime with 2012 presidential maybe-hopefuls much more rambunctious and gaffe-prone than he, it’s about time he got into the “outrageous statements” game. Try as he might, he may have succeeded at a recent dinner. Speaking to Americans for Prosperity, Romney suggested we “hang” President Obama, before realizing there was a very necessary “metaphorically” missing from that sentence.

American intervention in the Libyan conflict appears to have many on all parts of the political spectrum feeling slightly queasy– after all, it is the nation’s third military front in the Middle East. But while some on the left are disappointed with President Obama’s decision to send military force there, Rachel Maddow argues that his talks with other nations and attempts to keep the Arab world at the forefront of the struggle are a sign he intends to keep his campaign promises.

While many who were hoping to see international action taken to stop Muammar Gaddafi‘s attempt to retake the rebel stronghold of Benghazi in Libya were satisfied today by the UN’s no-fly zone resolution, Sean Hannity called too little, too late on President Obama, arguing that Republicans would have acted much faster to stop the attack. Chris Matthews had an immediate reaction to President Obama’s statement on the ongoing unrest in Libya and it was not positive. Every year in honor of Presidents Day, Gallup conducts a poll where they ask Americans who is the greatest United States president? This year’s results revealed Ronald Reagan as the favorite choice among Americans and Chris Matthews was none too pleased, dismissing the poll as just a “memory quiz.”

In a deafening blow to institutional memory, a new Gallup poll asking Americans to rank their favorite presidents finds the nation’s favorite presidents mostly to have lived within their lifetimes, with three of the top five having served during the second half of the 20th century. This year, Ronald Reagan won the top spot, with Abraham Lincoln, Bill Clinton, John F. Kennedy and, straggling behind, George Washington rounding out the top 5.

On Monday night’s Last Word, host Lawrence O’Donnell tried to make sense of a recent Sarah Palin interview with Pat Robertson‘s Christian Broadcasting Network, calling in a little backup in the form of “Sarah Palin translator” Alex Wagner. It’s a tough job, to be sure, but in deciphering Palin’s baffling assessment of the crisis in Egypt, I don’t think they quite nailed it. I’m getting pretty good at this, though, so I’ll happily take a stab at it.
