30 Rock: Blame Canada

This week’s 30 Rock made news on Gawker for apparently sending secret coded messages to the check-signers at NBC that they suck — but it made news in my heart for the wondeful Canadian sub-plot. New cast member Danny (aka “The Robot” from last week’s “Audition Day”) is Canadian, and he has to get rid of that pesky, tell-tale “Aboot.” (BTW, we don’t say it like that, but anyway.) I especially loved the flashback to Danny’s football movie in Ottawa: “We’re gonna make this a Boxing Day the Prime Minister will never forget!” (Though, as a quibble, Boxing Day in Ottawa would be on Dec. 26th, and hence snow-submerged and in sub-zero temperatures, so a small ding there for non-verisimilitude.) Either way — it should be seen. So, in keeping with our Hulu-plundering weekend TV rerun posts, if you missed it, here you go.

… and if you missed “Audition Day,” which features the much-publicized cameo of NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams, here you go as well. He joins NBC fixtures like Al Roker and Meredith Vieira on the cameo list. Gee, NBC sure must be miffed at 30 Rock for not promoting them!

Actually Rachel, you do talk that way (“alloo-ing your spoose?” and “ootspoken”): LINK

I don’t get why Canadians are defensive about the way they talk. I think Canadian accents are very sexy. Let’s face it -”aboot” rhymes with “cute”!

Michael Steele On CBO Report: “That’s A Lie”

    video

As the efforts to reform health care come to its end, the evidence on both sides of the debate is being used - and disabused - of its value (depending on where one sides on this controversial issue.) Case in point, the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) recently reported that the current bill would the cut U.S. budget deficit by $1.3 trillion over 20 years, all while covering 95%. Good news for the White House, but in an interview with CNN's Rick Sanchez, RNC chairman Michael Steele has a simple explanation: "That's a lie," he said of the CBO report.

Gibbs On Baier-Obama Chat: “Always Better To Let The President Give An Answer”

    video

The takeaway question from yesterday's contentious sit-down interview between Fox News' Bret Baier and President Obama: Was Baier guilty of unnecessarily interrupting the President, or was he simply keeping the President on track? We've already run down the mixed media reactions to the interview, and now Mediaite's own Tommy Christopher asked White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs for his thoughts on the interview.
