Baltimore PD Commish: Freddie Gray Was Not Buckled Inside Police Van
Baltimore Police Commissioner Anthony Batts said this afternoon at a presser that Freddie Gray was not buckled in when he was in the police van and so a “rough ride” may have caused his fatal spinal injury while in police custody.
Batts said they’ve continued to narrow down the timeline leading to Gray’s death, after an encounter with the cops on the street. He explained, “We know he was not buckled in the transportation wagon as he should have been. No excuses for that, period.”
Batts also noted that the officers “failed to get him medical attention in a timely manner multiple times.”
And according to The Baltimore Sun, the practice of “rough rides” has seriously injured suspects in the past. Ten years ago Dondi Johnson suffered a spinal injury while in police custody and died weeks later.
