Dylan Ratigan‘s new MSNBC show, Morning Meeting, has been on the air for one month today, and he had his review on-air. What did we learn? There’s some things he needs to improve on.

The “youngest member” of the show’s staff, Brett Osmon, delivered the review, which included a “needs improvement” grade on interrupting people and talking too loudly. What did he do well on? He “exceeded expectations” in the “enjoys participating in conversation,” department.

Bottom line: Ratigan likes to talk – loudly and often.

Here’s the segment:

I’ve watched off and on since his first day and feel he is improving, but I completely agree that he has been loud and rude, purporting his own opinion while saying it was a “conversation”.

Early on, he particularly angered me in his dismissive treatment of Contessa Brewer. That is one strong, smart woman and she turned out to be the ONE bright spot in Dylan’s first couple weeks. She is still a bright spot on the show, but now Dylan seems to recognize and respect her more.

I caught Dylan today (7/29) and, for the most part, it was a watchable show. He has great regular guests, Contessa’s a strength he needs to recognize and respect, and he seems to be finding the balance between spouting his opinion (not so loudly any more) and guiding/focusing the conversation.

The improvement has earned him more time to continue for now.
