For Anderson Cooper’s New Daytime Talk Show, Just Call Him Anderson

Just call him Anderson.

When CNN’s Anderson Cooper adds a daytime talk show to his roster of daily duties next fall, the new show will take the simple, informal title Anderson, according to a report by The New York TimesBrian Stelter.

The Warner Bros./Telepictures strip, which has been bought by local stations in 20 markets, was first revealed by The Hollywood Reporter, who quoted Cooper on his new gig:

“It’s fun and interesting to work in daytime television. The format is unique and you can really go in-depth on a wide range of fascinating and compelling stories. With this new program I hope to relay important information and relate to people and the audience in a completely different way. It’s an exciting opportunity to show another side of myself and create something worthwhile and special in daytime.”

  • The Real Royal King

A really personable, with an ear and an eye for the news and the unparalleled ability to disembowel a Tea Party Fakir with a single swipe of the scalpel.

Good luck, Coop, and enjoy this show.

Why does CNN think ‘Anderson’ will get any better ratings with a daytime talk show than he does now? He lost part of his audience AND credibility when he started with his gay teabagging jokes.

“I hope to relay important information and relate to people and the audience in a completely different way. It’s an exciting opportunity to show another side of myself and create something worthwhile and special in daytime.”

And what side might that be? Anderson already interviews celebrities on both 360 and “60 Minutes”, he doesn’t reveal any personal information about himself, and he is constantly giving his opinion on 360.

It will be interesting to see how someone who admitted to “60 Minutes Correspondent Candid” that he is “not very good with people” and has to force himself to interact with them for the “job”, will be showing another “side” of himself. Based on what I have seen over the years, any spontaneous or unplanned interaction he has had with people has been clumsy and awkward. I can’t see him dealing comfortably with a live audience.

@KiKi, “Why does CNN think ‘Anderson’ will get any better ratings with a daytime talk show than he does now? He lost part of his audience AND credibility when he started with his gay teabagging jokes.”

Although Anderson’s early viewers, like myself, are news junkies, his audience is now made up mostly of reality show, “Regis & Kelly”, “Real Housewives” fans who have little or no interest in hard news and CNN knows it. I think the tweets on his Twitter page are evidence enough. For instance, this weekend they were mostly about his appearance last night on Bravo’s “Watch What Happens: Live”, very few mention anything about the Taliban special he did on the work of Norwegian journalist Paul Refsdal who was kidnapped by the Taliban.
