Harry Reid: It’s ‘A Good Day for the Anarchists’

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) slammed Republicans from the floor of the U.S. Senate on Tuesday in the wake of a partial government shutdown. He said that a shutdown has been the goal of a faction of the Republican Party all along and that today is “a good day for the anarchists.”

“My friend, the Republican leader, spoke as if George Orwell wrote his speech,” Reid said of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY). “This is 1984, where up is down, down is up, East is West.”

“We have a situation where we have a good day with the anarchists. Why? Because the government is closed,” he continued.

“Speaker [John] Boehner and his band of tea party radicals have done the unthinkable — they’ve shut down the federal government,” Reid added. “Now, for us that’s hard to comprehend as being good. For them, they like it.”
