Obama On Egypt Transition: “It Must Be Peaceful And It Must Begin Now”
Following Egyptian President Mubarak’s decision that he would not seek re-election, President Obama gave a statement praising the Egyptian military for keeping the peace thus far and urging them to continue to ensure that this time of change remains peaceful. He recognized that the Egyptian people are the only ones who can determine their leader, and declared that “an orderly transition must be meaningful, it must be peaceful, and it must begin now.”
