ABC’s Martha Raddatz spoke to Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Deshchytsia on This Week With George Stephanopoulos Sunday morning, and asked if his assessment last week of a high chance of war with Russia had gone up after recent Russian troop movements.
“We are very much concerned about this development, the deployment of Russian troops on our eastern borders,” Deshchytsia said. “We are ready to respond. As you know, the Ukraine government is trying to use all the peaceful, diplomatic means to stop Russians. But the people are also ready to defend their homeland.”
Deshchytsia said the situation was becoming more inflammatory, as any action by Russian troops in eastern Ukraine would likely provoke a response.
“[The chances for war] are growing,” Deshchytsia said. “We don’t know what Putin has in his mind and what would be his decision. That’s why the situation is becoming even more explosive than it used to be a week ago.”
