Zach Galifianakis’ SNL Monologue: So Raven (VIDEO)

Zach Galifianakis is not a huge star, and most people probably can’t pronounce — or spell — his name. But God is he funny, which is why his turn hosting SNL has been eagerly anticipated in comedy circles, as well as those who fell in love with his weird, baby-toting groomsman in Hangover and got that it wasn’t a fluke. And — wow, he did not disappoint! Right from his hilarious monologue, which was rife with his own weird signature humor, his hosting has been getting tweets of pretty much unanimous approval on Twitter (which spelled his name right, no less).

Here’s the monologue, including a potential new SNL catchphrase (watch for people on subway platforms yelling “HEY EVERYBODY! HERE COMES THE CHOO CHOO!”), a thoughtful take on “That’s So Raven” and a goofy Canadian metric system joke that probably shouldn’t have worked but totally did. Also: “Hoobastank is here!” Good stuff.

Lame lame lame … although I didn’t make it to the end, I didn’t like what I saw, and I’m a HUGE Galifanakis fan. Right out of the gate with the “overly affectionate family”? Zach’s random NBC appearances were great, but then… Hoda and Kathie Lee? Ugh. Even “What Up Wit That” seemed forced tonight, and I used to love that sketch. Then came another decidedly “meh” Situation Room gag. You’d think with a guy like Galifinakis hanging around for a week, the SNL writers would be inspired to try something different and maybe even funny. Instead his talents were pretty much wasted – unless something awesome happened in the last 15 minutes.

By my resoning it would be hard to top that opener. Zach has been way beyond SNL for years.

Wow what a bunch of rambling “drubble.” No wonder I don’t watch this show anymore. Canned laughter, again is very evident….
