Weinstein Proves In Hollywood, Being Liberal Means Never Having To Say You’re Sorry

Did you catch Harvey Weinstein‘s public statement and quasi-admission that he has behaved in Hollywood for decades like a loathsome, despicable, power-hungry sexual predator? Who does this pig think he is, Bill Clinton?

Actually, if you read a bit further into his statement, you’ll see that the comparison to Clinton is more apt than the obvious “creepy old dude using his power to bed young women” one.

“I am going to need a place to channel that anger so I’ve decided that I’m going to give the NRA my full attention. I hope Wayne LaPierre will enjoy his retirement party. I’m going to do it at the same place I had my Bar Mitzvah. I”m making a movie about our President, perhaps we can make it a joint retirement party.”

It’s no wonder that BuzzFeed is reporting that Democrat operative and former Obama adviser Anita Dunn counseled Weinstein in the days preceding the New York Times blockbuster report. Dunn, along with Weinstein, knows full well that in Hollywood, and in Democrat circles in general, pretty much any behavior is excused as long as you vote the right way on key issues (if you hold elected office) or as long as you help the right elected officials gain power, as Weinstein has done his whole professional career.

Let’s not forget that in the wake of the Monica Lewinsky scandal, New York Times reporter Nina Burleigh famously proclaimed she’d “be happy to give him {oral sex} just to thank him for keeping abortion legal.” Many people forget the rest of her quote to Mirabella where she advised every woman in America to go full Lewinsky on Clinton because where would they be without a man like Bill looking out for them? “I think American women should be lining up with their Presidential kneepads on to show their gratitude for keeping the theocracy off our backs,” she said.

So when Weinstein claims contrition and mental illness and promises to seek therapy for acting like his political hero on a regular basis, the inclusion of a political attack on Wayne LaPierre, the NRA and Donald Trump is not a casual aside, it’s a calculated strategy. And, I suspect, it will work.

Ashley Judd, the most famous victim of Weinstein’s predatory behavior, is an ardent pro-choice feminist activist who led the rally of the “resistance” pink hat march on Washington in January by proclaiming she was a “Naaaaaaaaaasty woman” and went on to speculate about the president’s nocturnal emissions while fantasizing about his own daughter.  It was some sick stuff that left many wondering to themselves “Wow, what happened to Ashley Judd?”

Now we know what happened to her.  Harvey Weinstein happened to her. And at the time, according to the Times report, as she was being preyed upon by a bathrobe-clad Weinstein begging for a massage or for her to watch him shower (talk about Sophie’s Choice) Judd’s over-riding concern was not “alienating Harvey Weinstein” while escaping his Cosby-esque advances.

Has she channeled that anger and humiliation and fear at the industry that allowed it? Or at the man and his multi-million dollar corporation that enabled it? No. Her real enemies are Republicans. Don’t you get it?

So the not-so-hidden message  in Weinstein’s non-apology statement was “Hey, remember, I supported Hillary and Obama and I raise millions for Democrats and I’ll help destroy the NRA and Trump. I may treat you like shit, but my heart is in the right place. Now get your knee pads on.”

In Hollywood, being liberal means never having to say you’re sorry.
