A 21-year-old Cornell University engineering student was arrested on Tuesday and charged with making “threats to kill or injure” Jewish students on campus.
According to the complaint, Patrick Dai allegedly “posted threatening messages to the Cornell section of an online discussion site,” including posts that “threatened to ‘stab’ and ‘slit the throat’ of any Jewish males he sees on campus, to rape and throw off a cliff any Jewish females, and to behead any Jewish babies.”
In one post, Dai allegedly threatened to “bring an assault rifle to campus and shoot all you pig jews,” while in another, he allegedly threatened to “shoot up” a Cornell University dining hall “that caters predominantly to Kosher diets and is located next to the Cornell Jewish Center.”
Students were advised by Cornell Hillel to avoid the dining hall as a result of the threat and police were called to provide additional security on campus.
If found guilty, Dai could receive a maximum sentence of five years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and 3 years of supervised release, according to the Department of Justice.
Dai is scheduled to appear in federal court on Wednesday and the case is reportedly being investigated by the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force.
