CBS News White House correspondent Olivia Rinaldi couldn’t contain her excitement on camera after learning of Taylor Swift’s engagement.

On Tuesday afternoon, Swift and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce officially announced their engagement with an Instagram post. The two had been publicly dating since 2023, and Swift has since been a regular sight at Chiefs games.

At the time of the announcement, Rinaldi was outside the White House preparing for a live shot. In a clip posted online, the correspondent was stunned by what she was looking at on her phone.

“Taylor Swift is engaged!” Rinaldi repeated several times before going on air. “This — come back to me! She just posted it. Oh my god!

“Oh, it’s huge! The ring is ginormous! This is so exciting!”

At one point, Rinaldi joked that she felt like Paul Revere breaking the news to those around her.

That enthusiasm continued when she went on air.

“This is a very exciting moment for me in my professional career,” Rinaldi continued, “because I get to announce that Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce engaged! As you were talking to Joe Lang, our lovely producer, Gaby Ake texted me and said, ‘Taylor Swift’s engaged,’ and you can see it right there on her social media. She put it up in that post that they got engaged with the caption, ‘Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,’ with a little dynamite sign there. Very exciting here that we get to break that and tell you about that.”
