Anthony Sedlak, Food Network Canada Host And Celebrity Chef, Dead At 29

Sad news from Canada: Anthony Sedlak, the host of Food Network Canada‘s The Main and head judge of Family Cook-Off, was found dead in his Vancouver apartment on Friday. He was 29.

Sedlak was known for his easy style and culinary pedigree (he’d worked for two years in the kitchens of London’s Michelin-starred La Trompette, and won the silver medal representing Canada in the World Junior Chef Challenge at the age of 23), as well as his astonishing 50-pound weight loss in 2010 (which he credited to his newfound love of biking). He rose to stardom, however, after he won the Food Network’s Superstar Chef Challenge and received his own ultimately successful pilot. Sedlak hosted The Main for four seasons, publishing a bestselling cookbook while working on the show.

Upon hearing the news, Sedlak’s fans and colleagues were shocked over Sedlak’s unexpected death, and their reactions can be summed up with a stunned tweet from the godfather of Canadian celebrity chefs, Mark McEwan: “Such a shame…”

In a statement, his family points to an undiagnosed medical condition as the cause of death, and plan on holding a private memorial service in Vancouver.
