MAGA influencers are loving a mock Vanity Fair cover calling First Lady Melania Trump the United States’ queen, with some suggesting they should meme the fake image into existence.
An image of Melania Trump wearing a crown on the cover of Vanity Fair and being declared “The American Queen” quickly spread on social media among MAGA supporters, though the image was quickly identified as a fake AI photo generated by the right-wing Next News Network.
Next News Network’s Gary Franchi said he had generated the image himself.
“Now I do have a confession to make. I actually made that cover with AI. But the facts are the same,” he said. “I made that because I wanted to troll the left because they are melting down over this becoming a possibility! So there’s my disclaimer.”
Franchi was referring to reports of a staff lashing out over a proposed Melania Trump cover at Vanity Fair. Semafor first reported that Vanity Fair’s new editor in chief was interested in a Melania Trump cover, and Daily Mail reported that some staff members reacted “in fury” over platforming the first lady.
MAGA supporters weren’t all that bothered by the actual cover being shared being fake. Charlie Kirk suggested people meme the cover into existence, and Fox News host Laura Ingraham said she loved the “reaction” from critics to the image, whether it’s real or not.
Vanity Fair’s actual cover model for September will be Jennifer Aniston.
