The New York Post editorial board challenged Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to publicly back vaccines amid a measles outbreak in Texas.

In Lubbock, Texas, an unvaccinated child became the first American to die of measles since 2015 earlier this week. The Texas Department of Health Services has also revealed that the number of confirmed measles cases in West Texas is at 124 — an increase of 34 since last week.

“In seeking Senate approval to take his new job, Health Secretary Robert Kennedy insisted he’d come around on the safety and efficacy of (most) vaccines.” The NYP editorial board wrote. “Now he has a chance to prove he really meant it.”

RFK Jr. faced pushed back during his Senate confirmation process over his promotion conspiracy theories and his anti-vaccine viewpoints.

The editorial board demanded Kennedy travel to Texas and tell the public of rural West Texas that the measles “vaccine is safe, and getting children jabbed is an act of love.” The board noted that all of Kennedy’s children are vaccinated despite the health secretary’s criticism of vaccines.

“Maybe you won’t persuade any Mennonites, but it will make national news and surely convince others elsewhere — and so quietly save lives,” the board added. “Convince us you’re no longer a crank, Mr. Secretary: Head down to Texas and wave the flag for the measles vaccine.”
