‘All I Could See Was a Big Ball of Flames’ Witnesses Describe Philly Plane Crash Just Days After DC Tragedy

Philadelphia residents described their homes shaking and witnessing a “big ball of flames” in the sky following a Friday night plane crash.

A medical transport carrying six people crashed near Roosevelt Boulevard and Cottman Avenue, engulfing multiple homes in flames. Shelters have been set up for those displaced and areas near the crash continue to be cordoned off by authorities. It is unclear if there are any survivors.

The crash came just days after a military helicopter collided with a plane over Washington, D.C. killing dozens.

“I was right here at the door of my job and all I could see is a big ball of flames in the sky. Literally we heard a loud, loud bang. It shook the entire building. The whole building shook,” one man told CNN about the Philadelphia crash.

“I just saw blinking lights. I thought it was like something for the plane landing. But then I just got home and I saw it and I was like, dang, I just witnessed it. It was like it was pretty scary,” a kid who also witnessed the crash added to the outlet.

CNN national correspondent Jason Carroll reported from the ground not far from the crash and said other witnesses described feeling their homes shake, the area being filled with businesses and residences.

Carroll reported:

“This is a community that is still very much in shock this morning. I mean, when you think about where it happened in the middle of this very busy business district of northeast Philadelphia, lots of stores, restaurants, the Roosevelt Mall here in the area, not just businesses, but residences as well. A number of row houses in the area as well. And you think about the timing. This is a flight that took off just after around 6:00 yesterday, right in the middle of rush hour when it crashed. And as you can imagine, there were a number of people here in the area. There were so many people who were out and about who saw what happened.”
