Multiple sources have told CNN that Robert Card, the suspect in the mass shootings in Lewiston, Maine on Wednesday night, has been found dead.

CNN reported on Friday night that multiple law enforcement sources said Card died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. The sources said a body has been recovered.

Card, a 40-year-old military reservist, is suspected of killing 18 people on Wednesday in shooting sprees at a bowling alley and a restaurant. He had a documented history of mental illness.

The development ends a two-day manhunt in which residents in the Lewiston area sheltered in place while authorities conducted a massive manhunt. On Thursday, police surrounded Card’s home because they apparently suspected he returned there sometime after the shootings. In a dramatic scene that played out on live television, authorities used a megaphone and could be heard saying, “Come out with your hands up!” However, it was unclear if anyone was in the house at the time.

This is a developing story.
