Texas Lt. Gov. Suggests Removing Biden from His State’s 2024 Ballot as Revenge for Colorado Ruling Against Trump

Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick raised the prospect of taking President Joe Biden off of the ballot in Texas as an apparent act of political vengeance for Donald Trump.

Fox News host Laura Ingraham spoke with Patrick on Tuesday night to ask him about Governor Greg Abbott’s new bill allowing the state’s police to enforce illegal immigration laws as a state crime. As Patrick defended the bill and argued that it will stand up to legal scrutiny, he pivoted to attack Biden’s handling of immigration by saying he ought to be disqualified from the presidency.

“Seeing what happened in Colorado makes me think — except we believe in democracy in Texas — maybe we should take Joe Biden off the ballot in Texas for allowing eight million people to cross the border since he’s been president disrupting our state for more than anything anyone else has done in recent history,” Patrick said.

Patrick was clearly referring to the Colorado Supreme Court’s ruling to remove Trump from the state’s 2024 election ballot because of his actions before and during January 6th. According to the ruling, Trump fomented an insurrection, thus disqualifying himself for the presidency since Section Three of the Fourteenth Amendment in the U.S. Constitution forbids anyone who “engaged in insurrection or rebellion” to hold office.
