Democratic Congressman Claims ‘I Haven’t Seen’ Anti-Israel Comments From Colleagues

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) claimed not to have seen comments from his Democratic colleagues suggesting less-than-unequivocal support for Israel after this weekend’s terrorist attacks in the south of the world’s only Jewish-majority state on Wednesday.

After declaring that “America has been totally unified against this explosion of terrorism against Israel,” Raskin blamed House Republicans for the decision of eight members of their caucus to join the entirety of the Democratic caucus in ejecting former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) last week.

“This is just chaos under the Republican mismanagement of the House of Representatives,” asserted Raskin.

Then a reporter asked him to engage with the voices inside of his own party who have engaged in whataboutism in response to the horror in Israel:

REPORTER: Do you think Democrats are unified in their message that Israel has a right to defend itself? A couple of your colleagues have called for a cease fire, called for de-escalation, referred to Israel as an apartheid state. Do you think Democrats are unified in their support for Israel?

RASKIN: Yeah, we’re absolutely unified behind Israel’s right to exist and Israel’s right to defend itself and will be standing strong with Israel.

REPORTER: What do you make of the comments from your colleagues that that sort of indicate otherwise?

RASKIN: Well, I just I haven’t seen any of those. And all that I’ve heard is a very powerful consensus that we need to stand by Israel as it defends itself and as it restores the rule of law and the security of its citizens and the security and the human rights for everybody in the region.

In the days since the commencement of Hamas’ attack on Israel, Reps. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), Ilhan Omar (D-MN), and Cori Bush (D-MO) have all come under fire for their comments about the atrocities committed in Israel.

Tlaib has yet to condemn the rape, kidnapping, and murder of innocent Israelis, instead professing only to “grieve the Palestinian and Israeli lives lost.” She went on to pin the blame for the attack on the Israeli “occupation” and “apartheid system.”

Omar and Bush, meanwhile, have called for the U.S. to stop providing Israel with military aid as it responds to the attack.
