Hakeem Jeffries Brands Trump, Tucker and MTG the ‘Pro-Putin Caucus’: ‘They Want to See’ Him Win in Ukraine
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries went off on what he called the “Pro-Putin Caucus” of the Republican party, lumping in some boldface names in the process.
At issue is an ongoing legislative fight over sending more aid to Ukraine as they fight invading Russian military forces directed by Russian President Vladimir Putin. Several vocal Republican members of Congress have called to end the financial and military support and instead focus on addressing the current crisis at the U.S. southern Border.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was just in the nation’s capital, appealing for aid. In the joint press conference that followed, President Joe Biden cited Russian TV analysts who thanked Republicans for stymying US aid to Ukraine, which, in turn, helped invading Russian forces.
Rep Jeffries hit a similar note after CNN This Morning anchor Phil Mattingly asked, “If an agreement is reached, do you believe the speaker will put it on the floor?”
“That remains to be seen because the pro-Putin caucus of the House Republican Conference is extreme.,” he replied. “It’s loud, and it’s growing. It’s led by Marjorie Taylor Greene and Jim Jordan on the inside and, on the outside, it’s led by Donald Trump and Tucker Carlson.”
“And it seems increasingly clear that this pro-Putin caucus would like to see Vladimir Putin win in Ukraine,” Jeffries continued, “which would be bad for America’s national security, which is why it’s an open question as to whether House Republicans are serious at all about funding the Ukrainian war efforts.”
