President Donald Trump thanked his OG political nemesis, former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, for praising his decision to strike three Iranian nuclear facilities over the weekend in a heartwarming development on Tuesday.
Two days earlier, Bush had written on X that “President Trump’s decision to neutralize Iran’s regime’s nuclear program is a watershed moment. It reasserts U.S. strength, restores deterrence, and sends an unmistakable message to rogue regimes: the era of impunity is over,” and linked to a statement that he had issued alongside his colleagues at United Against a Nuclear Iran, a nonprofit organization that Bush serves as the chairman of.
“This evening, President Donald J. Trump made a historic and consequential decision: authorizing the destruction of the Fordow Fuel Enrichment Plant and sites at Natanz and Esfahan. We applaud President Trump and the United States for this decision—one of the most important of the 21st century,” read the statement, which went on to submit that “President Trump’s decision to neutralize Iran’s regime’s nuclear program is a watershed moment—one that reasserts American strength, restores deterrence, and sends an unmistakable message to rogue regimes: the era of impunity is over. Where others delayed and wavered, President Trump acted.”
“Today the world is safer as Fordow is gone. And history will remember those many men and women in our U.S. military, intelligence community, and economic sanctions community who worked for so long to make this moment possible and to ensure the destruction of Iran’s regime’s nuclear program. We applaud them and give them our thanks,” continued Bush and his colleagues.
Trump posted a screenshot of both Bush’s tweet and his organization’s statement on Truth Social Tuesday, adding “Thank you to Jeb Bush — Very much appreciated!”
The praise and gratitude is notable given the pair’s fractious relationship during the 2016 Republican presidential primary, during which Trump called Bush “an embarrassment to Bush family,” blamed his brother, former President George W. Bush, for the 9/11 attacks, and gave his first real rival the nickname, “Low Energy Jeb.”
