Mediaite Shatters Record With Largest Audience Ever in 2024 — Topping 3/4 of a Billion Page Views

Mediaite Breaking

Another year, another maelstrom of upheaval in politics and media — and Mediaite continues to grow at a stunning clip. Having sorted through our 2024 numbers, I am pleased to report that we blasted right through our previous traffic record with 760 million page views for the year. In terms of unique visitors, we drew an average of 10 million readers per month — another record.

And we did it at a time when digital media outlets are fighting over dwindling audiences thanks to the silo effects of partisanship and ruthless competition from the likes of Meta, X, Google, and TikTok. It’s been a tough decade for independent news shops, particularly those, like Mediaite, that don’t cheer for one political team. That our readership has grown exponentially is a testament to the fact that there remains an audience for coverage and criticism holding all sides of the media to account.

It didn’t hurt that 2024 was a blockbuster year for news.

There were the various legal cases chasing then-former President Donald Trump, who fended them off and even campaigned on them, while running against an ailing President Joe Biden.

Biden’s shock withdrawal and Kamala Harris’s entry into the race set up a mad dash to election day. From a media perspective, it paved the way for what many have described as the podcast election, with Trump and Harris both diving into the indie media scene. Trump, snubbing the mainstream press, courted podcasters like Joe Rogan and Logan Paul, while Harris hit up shows like All the Smoke and Call Her Daddy — and failed to land Rogan.

Elon Musk went full MAGA, using X, formerly Twitter, to boost Trump and torpedo Biden and Harris, even throwing a million bucks a day at swing states — and the rest is history. Trump’s victory sent a tremor through cable news and the rest of the traditional media industry, and the fallout is still mounting.

But our record-breaking numbers weren’t just from these headline-grabbers. Mediaite brought in readers with the quirky, the underreported, and the downright entertaining. Across the full spectrum of the media — even sports — Mediaite uncovered the moments you didn’t even know you just had to see. Our end of year most influential list was as buzzy as ever.

A massive shoutout to our editorial team is due — they’re like the Kansas City Chiefs and/or the Philadelphia Eagles of journalism — nimble, sharp, always ready for the next big story.

And to our readers, old and new, whether you’re here for a daily dose of political chaos, white-hot media industry news, or just to laugh at the latest on-air gaffe: thank you. You’ve been with us for almost 16 years, through thick and thin, and we’re thriving thanks to you.
