The New York Post wasted no time jeering at New York City’s new mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani by touting a front page mock-up of a Soviet-era propaganda poster rebranding the city: “The Red Apple.”
TheMurdoch-owned tabloid splashed “On your Marx, get set, Zo!” across its Wednesday cover after the 34-year-old Democrat clinched the race with a constructivist illustration of Mamdani posing in front of a hammer-and-sickle.
“Socialist Mamdani wins race for mayor,” the cover read.
Throughout the campaign, The New York Post consistently cast Mamdani as an ideological outlier whose policies would destabilize New York, repeatedly arguing he would drive out business, weaken policing, and upend the city’s tax base.
The tabloid also questioned his seriousness as a candidate, calling him more influencer than leader and a “menace” while it also accused him of racially divisive messaging.
Even in straight business coverage, the framing maintained that Mamdani’s rise “rattled” elites and represented a serious threat to the city’s stability.
