‘Normally People Don’t Cheer!’ CNN Anchor Celebrates Maury Povich’s Enthusiastic Orangutan Paternity Reveal
“You are the father!”
Anyone who grew up watching talk show legend Maury Povich reveal the paternity of children on television knows this refrain, and much like CNN anchor Brianna Keilar, it wasn’t always a cause for celebration.
But earlier this week, the Denver Zoo enlisted the TV icon to help them announce the results of the paternity mystery surrounding their newborn baby orangutan, Siska. The little one’s biological father was either 30-year-old Berani or 16-year-old Jaya. When Povich finally made the announcement after reading the result from his trademark envelope, the mystery was solved:
Berani… you are the father!
The staff of the Denver Zoo cheered, and in this case, new dad Berani was also excited! Keilar and fellow anchor Boris Sanchez provided their own commentary on the announcement:
Sanchez: What… a moment. I feel like Maury Povich has resolved so many family issues. He’s made a name for himself, and clearing up, really, the nebulous fog of parenthood.
Keilar: Normally people don’t cheer after he makes that announcement, though!
Sanchez: Some people do! Some people do backflips! You’ve gotta watch those YouTube compilations.
A lot of those backflips happen when the guy is not the father, but who’s counting?
