The official X/Twitter account of the Democratic Party made an alcoholism joke directed at Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth amid reports about him sharing attack plans in another Signal chat.
The New York Times reported Tuesday that sources accused Hegseth of sharing details of an attack on Yemen in a chat that included family members and his personal lawyer. That report came a month after The Atlantic’s Jeffrey Goldberg revealed Hegseth shared the plans in a separate chat with a number of other high-ranking officials within President Donald Trump’s cabinet. Goldberg knew this because he was accidentally invited to the chat by National Security Adviser Mike Waltz.
In response to the news, the Democratic Party called for Hegseth’s removal in a Sunday night tweet.
“@PeteHegseth needs to go,” the tweet read.
Two hours later, Hegseth responded to the tweet himself.
“Your agenda is illegals, trans & DEI,” he said, “all of which are no longer allowed @ DoD.”
The next morning, the Democratic Party’s account responded with a blurred image of an iPhone screen. The account captioned it “Pete’s POV.”
Prior to Hegseth’s confirmation, there were reports that he allegedly drank excessively during his time at Fox News. Hegseth has denied ever having a drinking problem but vowed to quit drinking if confirmed as the secretary of the Department of Defense.
