Scott Bessent Reportedly Made 2 Homes His ‘Primary Residence’ — Same Thing Trump Wants to Fire Fed Gov Over

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent named two different homes his “principal residence” simultaneously Bloomberg reported on Wednesday, drawing comparisons to the allegations made against Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook, whom President Donald Trump has been attempting to fire.

In 2007, Bessent indicated that homes he owned in both Massachusetts and New York were his primary residence, according to mortgage records.

Bloomberg, pointing to mortgage experts, said there is no sign of wrongdoing on Bessent’s part, and that Bank of America, the lender he was working with, did not expect him to use both homes as his primary residence.

Bank of America lent Bessent $21 million to fund deals for a home in Bedford Hills, New York and a beach house in Provincetown, Massachusetts.

The report comes as President Trump has moved to fire Cook over allegations of mortgage fraud. Cook has been accused of signing documents in 2021 indicating that a home in Ann Arbor, Michigan and an Atlanta property were both her “primary residences.”

President Trump moved to fire Cook in August over the move, and Bill Pulte, the man the president has put in charge of regulating Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, submitted a criminal referral to the Justice Department earlier this month. Cook, the president and his appointee believe, knowingly committed mortgage fraud in order to secure a lower interest rate. A deal on a third home in Massachusetts is also being reviewed.

Those three loans stem from before Cook was nominated as a Fed governor by former President Joe Biden.

Cook’s firing has been blocked by two courts in the last month. On Monday, an appeals court in Washington, D.C. upheld a temporary halt on Trump firing Cook over the claims of mortgage fraud. Cook has not been charged with a crime stemming from the allegations.
