Trump Awards ‘American Patriot’ Rudy Giuliani Presidential Medal of Freedom After Car Wreck

President Donald Trump said on Monday he is awarding the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Rudy Giuliani, whom he called the “greatest Mayor in the history of New York City,” one day after Giuliani was severely injured in a car wreck.

“As President of the United States of America, I am pleased to announce that Rudy Giuliani, the greatest Mayor in the history of New York City, and an equally great American Patriot, will receive THE PRESIDENTIAL MEDAL OF FREEDOM, our Country’s higest civilian honor,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “Details as to time and place to follow. Thank you for your attention to this matter. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!!”

The president’s post comes after the 81-year-old Giuliani was hospitalized on Sunday with a fractured vertebrae and multiple cuts and bruises, after his rental car was rear-ended “at high speed” in New Hampshire.

Giuliani Spokesman Michael Ragusa said the former NYC mayor was in “great spirits” following the accident.

“He’s a beast. He survived 9/11,” Ragusa told the New York Post.

The Post on Monday reported Giuliani will remain in the hospital for a few more days as he recovers from his injuries.

Ted Goodman, another spokesperson for Giuliani, thanked President Trump following his announcement on Monday.

“There is no American more deserving of this honor,” Goodman posted on X. “Mayor Rudy Giuliani took down the Mafia, saved New York City, comforted the nation following 9/11, and served in countless other ways to improve the lives of others.”

Giuliani served as the Republican mayor of New York from 1994 to 2001, and more recently has served as a personal attorney for Trump. He was central to Trump’s failed attempts to challenge the 2020 presidential election.
