President Donald Trump took time out on the way to the Washington Commanders-Detroit Lions game to compliment his Air Force One pilot on “the greatest flyover ever.”

The pilot flew low over the stadium, prompting the NFL on Fox to comment, “Moments ago, Air Force One high above Northwest Stadium here in Landover, Maryland, as the Lions have taken a seven-nothing lead over the Commanders, and we are scheduled to chat with the commander-in-chief President Donald Trump.”

After the plane landed, Trump met briefly with reporters.

“I just want to say, was that the greatest flyover ever?” Trump exclaimed. “Nobody’s ever done a flyover like that. So, these are the best pilots in the world. They say, whoever flies Air Force One, the best pilots. And we just saw that.”

Trump also took a moment to say, “Things are going along very well, country’s doing well. The Democrats have to open it up. Thank you,” before heading to his seat.

Spencer Allan Brooks with WUSA reported, The FAA advisory for DCA, also known as Reagan Washington National Airport:

“A military flyover is expected over Northwest Stadium for the Commanders game this afternoon (4:12-4:24pm). FAA is forecasting a possible ground stop after 3pm at DCA. Pres. Trump’s travel between Joint Base Andrews, Northwest Stadium, and the White House could also lead to ground stops or ground delays. The route suspensions are likely to continue to cause problems.”

Airports across the country are experiencing travel delays due to the government shutdown and a shortage of air traffic controllers who have missed two paychecks, according to Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy.

ESPN reported Saturday that Trump is hoping the Commanders will name their upcoming $3.7 billion stadium after him.

ESPN said that a senior White House source has been in contact with a member of the Commanders’ owners group about the president’s wishes.
