Trump Tells Fake ‘Greatest President Of My Lifetime’ Story Hours After Fox News Busted Him — With Video
President Donald Trump told a fake story about being called “the greatest president of my lifetime” by a Democratic governor — hours after a Fox News host showed the claim was false by going to the videotape.
During a photo op on Monday, Trump told the tale of how Gov. Wes Moore (D-MD) came up to him at a football game and couldn’t stop praising him:
I met him at the Army-Navy game. They said, oh, there’s Governor Moore. He’d love to see you. He came over to me, hugged me, shook my hand. You were there?
He said, “Sir, you’re the greatest president in my lifetime.”
I said, well, it’s really nice that you say that. I’d love you to say it publicly, but I don’t think you can do that, so it’s okay.
But no, “Sir. You’re doing a fantastic job. I want to just shake your hand.”
Thank you very much, Governor. That was that.
Hours later, Fox News dug up the behind-the-scenes video of the scene in question — from Fox Nation’s Art of the Surge — and it proved that while Gov. Moore was respectful and collegial while discussing the Key Bridge disaster, he never said anything remotely resembling what Trump claimed:
GOV. WES MOORE (D-MD): Mr. President. Welcome back to Maryland, sir. Welcome back to Maryland. It’s good to see you.
PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: Good-looking guy (ph). In-person too.
GOV. WES MOORE (D-MD): Thank you, sir, great to see you. Great to see you. And it’s great to have you back here.
PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: (inaudible).
GOV. WES MOORE (D-MD): Thank you, sir. Thanks to you.
PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: (inaudible).
GOV. WES MOORE (D-MD): Thank you. Well, we are — we are very, very anxious to be able to work closely with you, and I know — I know the Key Bridge is something that we’re–
PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: I know, since I got here (ph).
GOV. WES MOORE (D-MD): It’s going well. I mean, we spoke with Speaker Johnson, yesterday.
PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: Yes.
GOV. WES MOORE (D-MD): And Speaker Johnson says he believes that we’re close to the 100 percent cost share.
PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: Yes.
GOV. WES MOORE (D-MD): And the thing is, I told him, when we get that 100 percent cost share done, we are going to be able to go over the Key Bridge on your watch.
PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: Good. Good. GOV. WES MOORE (D-MD): Because I will have it done in 28.
PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: Good, good.
GOV. WES MOORE (D-MD): On time, on budget.
PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: We’ll help you out.
GOV. WES MOORE (D-MD): Thank you, sir.
PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: You okay?
GOV. WES MOORE (D-MD): Yes, sir.PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: Otherwise you come up with me.
GOV. WES MOORE (D-MD): Nah, I’m good.
But just hours after that, Trump told the story again — and even falsely claimed the video proved it:
I watched a man from Maryland who said to me, “I mean, sir, you’re the greatest president. You’re doing an unbelievable job. What a great job.”.
Governor Moore, has anyone heard of him? He’s another hopeful for president. I don’t think so.
But I met him, and I didn’t realize it was on camera. Did you see? They caught him on camera? I was at a game, I don’t know, like the Army-Navy game or something. And I met them in a hallway.
And, as usual, you do your job very well. One of these great cameramen had it on tape.
But I met this gentleman. I never met him before. “Sir, you’re doing a great job. You’re doing an unbelievable job. Thank you very much.”.
But then he goes on television and says, “Oh, Trump is a dictator. He’s a dictator.”.
And a lot of people hear it.
