E.J. Antoni, President Donald Trump’s pick to run the Bureau of Labor Statistics, regularly posted sexually charged attacks on former Vice President Kamala Harris and disparaged gays and Trump critics alike on a now-defunct social media account, an explosive CNN report has found.
Antoni, a research fellow at the MAGA-fied Heritage Foundation think tank, operated a “PhDofbombsaway” Twitter account from 2017-2020 that regularly posted pro-MAGA and , CNN’s KFile reported.
“You can’t run a race on your knees,” the account once posted in regard to Harris.
“There is only one sexual orientation — everything else is a disorientation,” read another tweet.
The Twitter (now X) account is no longer in operation, CNN reported.
Trump nominated Antoni to lead BLS after firing Dr. Erika McEntarfer, the Biden-appointed BLS commissioner, whom he accused of “rigging” jobs data to make him look “bad” – after a brutal July report.
But August’s employment report was not much better, with the government adding just 22,000 jobs.
The KFile piece on Antoni is the latest troubling report about Trump’s pick to lead the agency.
Last month, NBC News reported that Antoni “appears in numerous videos posted on social media of the crowd on the Capitol grounds” on Jan. 6, 2021. The ensuing infamous riot had not yet occurred.
The report was based on a video – archived by ProPublica – and posted on the right-wing social media site Parler.
The White House backed Antoni in a statement to KFile, but didn’t mention the Twitter account.
“President Trump has nominated Dr. EJ Antoni to fix the issues at the BLS and restore trust in the jobs reports,” White House spokesperson Taylor Rogers said in the statement. “Dr. Antoni has the experience and credentials needed to restore solution-oriented leadership at the BLS — solutions that will prioritize increasing survey response rates and modernizing data collection methods to improve the BLS’s accuracy.”
