WATCH: Mayor Eric Adams Endorses Andrew Cuomo and Slams ‘Communist’ Mamdani
New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) held a press conference Thursday to formally endorse former Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s campaign to succeed him.
Adams dropped out of the race at the end of September after a series of scandals plagued his office and made it difficult to create a foothold in the mayoral race even though he was the incumbent.
“Am I angry that I’m not the one taking down Zohran, the socialist and the communist? You’re darn right I am,” Adams said of frontrunner Zohran Mamdani (D), a Muslim and self-described democratic socialist. “But you know what? This city means more to me then anything and it’s time for us as a family to come together.”
Adams continued:
New York can’t be Europe, folks. I don’t know what is wrong with people. You see what’s playing out in other countries because countries because of Islamic extremism. Not Muslims — let’s not mix this up — but those Islamic extremisms that are burning churches in Nigeria, that are destroying communities in Germany, that have taken over the logical thinkings and that is what I am fighting for. I am fighting for the family of New York.
That is why I am here today to endorse Andrew Cuomo to be part of this fight. I am going to give it my all these next few days to make sure that Black and Brown communities specifically who believe that there is nothing at stake in the election for them — it is. When you empty out 3,000 people on Rikers Island who preyed on these committees, that is at stake. When you state that you don’t believe small property owners have the right to charge a moderate rent, that is at stake. When you’ll and say you can freeze rent, you can’t freeze rent. You can’t freeze rent but you are lying and telling people you can do so.
In addition to Mamdani, Cuomo is set to face off against Republican Curtis Sliwa in the race for Gracie Mansion..
