An Arizona police officer rescue a woman from a car engulfed in flames Sunday morning. The woman turned out to be the daughter of the local fire captain.

In body cam footage released Wednesday night by the Goodyear Police Department, Officer Dakota Berry drove up to a multi-car accident on his way back to the Arizona suburb. When he got closer, he heard the horn going off in one of the cars. As he got out to assess the scene, he realized the honking was from someone alive in the burning car.

Berry was sprint running across the highway to the honking vehicle. After seeing the woman inside, he went back to his car to retrieve a tool to break open the window. Seconds after Berry initially punctured the window with the tool, the woman kicked the rest away with her bare feet.

“Get out, get out, get out!” Berry said to the woman.

As she struggled to climb out of the window, the officer then pulled her by her legs to get her out of the car. He then used a fire extinguisher to douse the flames in her hair.

The woman, according to reporting by the New York Post, was later identified as Asharie Cheatham. She’s the daughter of Goodyear Fire Captain Simeon Cheatham.

Asharie was taken to the hospital in critical condition. At the time of writing, she was expected to survive.

“She is a remarkable young woman; courageous, determined and full of life,” the fire captain said in a statement obtained by the New York Post. “Even in the face of unimaginable pain and challenge, her resilience shines through. Every day she inspires us with her strength and her will to heal.

“This road will not be easy, but she has never backed down from adversity.”
