White House Touts Overwhelming Popularity of Trump’s Deal With Iran — Which He Just Declared to Be ‘Over’

The White House on Monday boasted about the popularity of President Donald Trump’s peace deal with Iran — the same deal that he declared was “over” weeks earlier.

Citing a new survey from Big Data Poll, the White House proudly declared in a tweet that “Voters Overwhelmingly Support Iran Peace Deal.”

According to the survey, which was first published June 29, more than 60% of registered voters approved of the Memorandum of Understanding that resulted in a brief ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran. Just 23.7% opposed the deal, and the remaining 15.9% were unsure or undecided.

There was, however, one major problem with the White House posted those numbers when it did: Trump had already declared the Memorandum of Understanding was officially over.

During the fragile ceasefire, Iran reportedly opened fire on ships attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. This was apparently the final straw for the U.S., and its forces began resuming strikes against Iran shortly after. At the time of writing, American forces had launched attacks on Iran every day over the last week and a half. The resumption of hostilities has also resulted in the deaths of several more U.S. troops.

That same survey cited by the White House also revealed that Trump’s overall approval of the war was still well in the red. While 35.9% approved of his handling of the situation of Iran, a whopping 56.8% disapproved.
