‘Who Are You With?’ Trump Questions Reporter as She Confronts Him About Stock Market Disaster
President Donald Trump interrupted a reporter as she confronted him over the stock market plunge that followed implementation of his tariffs, asking her “Who are you with?”
Trump rolled out a tariff program Wednesday that was much larger and more comprehensive than many expected — cratering stock futures almost instantly.
The stock market dropped like a boulder as soon as the opening bell rang Thursday morning, and closed almost 1700 points in the hole — and that was before China announced reciprocal tariffs that sent futures crashing again.
Amid the stock market turmoil, Trump emerged into the press cabin aboard Air Force One Thursday afternoon and took questions from reporters for around twenty minutes.
Toward the end of the gaggle, Daily Mail Senior White House Correspondent Emily Goodin began to ask Trump about people “upset” about their retirement accounts evaporating when Trump interrupted her to ask the name of her outlet — a frequent occurrence in this second term.
He then predicted the stock market “will boom” and laughed as he said he hasn’t checked his own 401k:
EMILY GOODIN: A lot of people were upset about how they’re–.
PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: Who are you with?
The Daily Mail.
EMILY GOODIN: A lot of people were upset today about how their 401ks were doing. Do you have investments? Were you looking at them?
PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: No I think–.
EMILY GOODIN: Are you worried?
PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: Well, I think our markets are going to boom. Got to give it a little chance.
But we’re taking in jobs and we’re taking in industry and we are taking in trillions of dollars. I think, I think our market is going to boom. Got to give it little bit of time.
But they’ve already started construction on numerous plants. Soon there will be many, many plants. All over the country they’re going–.
REPORTER: Have you both been checking your 401k?
PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: So you got to give, you got to give that, you got to give that a little time. (LAUGHS) I haven’t checked my 401k. Thank you very much everybody.
