Bill Maher Bites Back After Guest Claims US Has ‘Plenty of Room’ for Migrants: ‘Countries Have to Have a Border’

Bill Maher clashed with his Club Random guest John Leguizamo after the actor and activist declared there is “plenty of room” in the United States for illegal immigrants.

On his Club Random podcast, Maher ripped former President Joe Biden’s handling of the southern border, arguing there cannot be a policy of “come one, come all” with any expectation of control.

“There’s plenty of room here,” Leguizamo said.

“Room?” Maher asked, surprised by his guest’s claim.

“There’s plenty of room in America, come on. There’s not a lack of room in America,” Leguizamo said.

“But it’s never about room, it’s about resources,” Maher pushed back. “And it’s about having — countries have to have a border. I mean, they’ve done surveys and something like 200 million people around the world when asked, ‘Would you come to America if you could?’ ‘Yes, I would.’ Why wouldn’t they? Lots of countries, excuse me, are shitholes, and they would love to be here.”

“The places aren’t shitholes,” Leguizamo shot back.

“Well, they are. That’s why they want to come,” Maher said.

Leguizamo claimed many Latin countries are only struggling because of America.

“It’s usually because of America and what America’s done. Especially in Latin America, [they’ve] beat up every democracy that was burgeoning… and then destroyed it to keep their oil or their resources,” he said.

Maher and Leguizamo agreed on the point that most immigrants take “essential” roles in the job market, but Maher stuck to his point that open border cannot work as the United States is still ahead of many countries when it comes to human rights and corruption.

“It’s not your fault you live in a shithole. It doesn’t mean your a shithole person. You have the misfortune of being born there and I get why you would wanna come here,” Maher said.

President Donald Trump received backlash in 2018 after he referred to Haiti and African nations as “shithole countries.”

At another point in the Club Random conversation between Maher and Leguizamo, Leguizamo stunned Maher by telling the vocal critic of “woke” that there is “no ultra woke.” According to the actor and sometimes-Daily Show host, Democrats “destroy” true progressives and all that is represented in the party are “center” leftisits.

“There’s no ‘ultra woke.’ They’re not woke enough for me,” Leguizamo said.

“Well, that’s quite a statement,” Maher said, “and we probably should not pursue that at all.”
