CNN’s Scott Jennings Explains His Major ‘Flip’ From Trump Hater To MAGA Cheerleader: ‘I Didn’t Get It’

Scott Jennings may be the most vocal supporter of President Donald Trump on CNN by far, but that’s not always been the case.

On The PBD Podcast this week, Jennings admitted he didn’t “get it” at first when it came to Trump, acknowledging he was once a vocal critic of he president before a major “flip.” Before becoming a MAGA enthusiast, Jennings accused Trump of sounding “deranged” and urged Republicans not to nominate him again.

On the podcast, Adam Sosnick noted that The Daily Show ran a recent segment putting together a reel of Jennings’s biggest Trump insults from the past.

Jennings explained:

I’ve voted Republican my whole life. And I did vote for him three times. But like everybody else, I didn’t get it. I mean, I readily admit I did not get it. I did not understand it. I did not get how this guy who hadn’t been a Republican was coming along to take over the Republican Party. I just — I did not get it. And so over time, I began to realize what he was doing. And I also began to realize the choice. And in 2024, for me, there was no — I mean, [former Vice President] Kamala Harris versus Donald Trump? The idea of common sense versus whatever it is she was selling.

Jennings said it was Trump’s opposition that helped sell him on the MAGA train.

“The reflexive nature of his opposition — to hate and try to delegitimize him on everything he does, I think is terrible for America,” he said.

The CNN senior correspondent argued Trump critics are “rooting” against the United States.

“On the tariffs, all April, they were hoping it would fail… On Iran, when we bombed the missile sites, what’s the first thing that happened? ‘We gotta impeach him.’ ‘Oh, he didn’t do that much damage.’ The immediate delegitimization of this guy — every time he does something, they root for America’s failure,” he said.

Jennings said he is not “100%” in alignment with Trump, but he prefers the current president to his opposition.

“I like it that he roots for America,” he said. “And I hate it that they root against America just because he did it.”
