Mark Zuckerberg Opens Up To Theo Von About the Internet Calling Him a ‘Robot for 20 Years’
Mark Zuckerberg joked on Theo Von’s This Past Weekend podcast that he is the “most awkward person” after the internet spent 20 years calling him a “robot.”
In a Monday episode of Von’s podcast, Zuckerberg opened up about feeling “socially awkward” and said various memes and internet chatter about him have not boosted his “confidence.”
“Have you ever felt socially awkward over your years?” Von asked the billionaire Facebook founder.
“No, I’m really smooth,” Zuckerberg joked. “No, obviously, yes, I’m like the most awkward person. People have been calling me a robot online for 20 years. It’s really done wonders for my confidence.”
Von told the tech guru his confidence “cannot be impaled,” arguing confidence has to be a “north star” for someone as successful as him.
The comedian admitted, however, there are times Zuckerberg appears to almost be replicating a “guy” based on how a YouTube instructional video told him a “guy” should act.
“I think there’s times where, yeah, you seem like a guy who probably watched a video of how to be a guy on YouTube or something, I think, but we all go through — we’re all awkward in different ways. We could put you in another environment and you may not be at all,” he said.
“I haven’t found those environments yet,” Zuckerberg said, laughing.
The billionaire also surprised his host when he admitted to building an underground tunnel in Hawaii.
“Zunkie got the bunky,” Von said after the revelation, spurred on by Von listing off the things he would do as a billionaire, which happened to include building an underground tunnel.
“It’s more of an underground storage situation,” Zuckerberg said, pushing back against “memes” suggesting he was building a “bunker.”
“It’s a good place to hide a little bit of dope,” Von said as he looked at images of Zuckerberg’s property. “That’s what I would say, dude. That’s what I would do.”
“Well, you and I differ,” Zuckerberg said.
