Thomas Massie Tells Theo Von U.S. Gets ‘a Lot of Countries That Hate Us’ in Exchange for Support for Israel
Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) told podcaster and comedian Theo Von that the United States gets “a lot of countries that hate us” in exchange for its support of Israel.
Massie joined Von on the comedian’s This Past Weekend podcast on Monday where the discussion turned to Israel and the aftermath of President Donald Trump’s strike on Iran’s nuclear program over the weekend. On Tuesday, Trump announced a ceasefire for the escalating fighting after hitting Iran with multiple strikes over the weekend. The president also expressed displeasure with both Iran and Israel, accusing them both of breaking the ceasefire with strikes.
“Why do they have this carve out that’s just for them? Like, what do we get from Israel do you feel like?” Von asked Massie after the congressman pointed to Israel as the only country with a robust and successful lobbying arm in Washington, D.C.
“We’ve got a lot of countries that hate us. That’s one of the things we get,” Massie said.
“Especially right now with this stuff in Gaza, I think it’s one of the worst PR campaigns I’ve ever seen in my life. It doesn’t make any sense to me. It gives their government this extremely evil look to me,” Von, who has spoken about Gaza casualties on his podcast before, said.
“Well, rough numbers, there are two million people in Gaza and 50,000 have been killed. That’s two and a half percent. Like, they’ve killed one in 40 people in Gaza. If you did that in the United States, if you did two and half percent of 350 million, it’d be almost 10 million people dead in the Unites States. Everybody in Gaza is, at this point, related to somebody who’s been killed,” Massie said.
The Kentucky congressman has stood as one of Trump’s most vocal critics over his strikes on Iran. The Libertarian-leaning congressman incensed the president so much that Trump reportedly launched a Super PAC aimed solely at taking Massie’s congressional seat. Massie called Trump’s attack on Iran unconstitutional.
“Congressman Thomas Massie of Kentucky is not MAGA, even though he likes to say he is,” Trump posted to Truth Social, promising to campaign “really hard” in Kentucky.
On the Monday podcast, Von referred to the United States as a “shell company” for Israel, blasting support for efforts in Gaza among the civilian casualties.
“Do we need this connection with Israel? What is it? No one ever explains what it’s for, I feel like. That would help everybody have a much better understanding because it starts to feel like America is just a shell company, an LLC for Israel. That’s what it starts feel like a lot of times, you now? Do you feel like that that’s realistic or do you feel that that is off base?” Von said.
“I wouldn’t send them a dime,” Massie answered. “Like, that’s my position. I don’t think — whatever we’re getting isn’t worth it.”
