Father of Milwaukee Brewers Player Gives Incredible Call of His Son’s Hit During Mid-Game Interview: ‘We’re Gonna Start Drinking Heavily’
The father of Milwaukee’s Brewer infielder Tyler Black made an instant-classic call of his son getting a hit while he was in the middle of an interview.
Black made his MLB debut Tuesday against the Tampa Bay Rays. After he recorded his first career hit in his first at-bat, Bally Sports Wisconsin reporter Sophia Minnaert made her way to Black’s family in the crowd to talk about the moment.
As they were talking, Black was in the batter’s box for his second at-bat. He managed another single to start his first game 2 for 2.
Coincidentally, Rod Black — Tyler’s father — is a veteran reporter who was able to put the interview on hold to call the game.
“There’s a base hit to right field for my boy, Tyler Black!” Rod said.
When the broadcast showed the family in the crowd, Rod got emotional in the moment.
“That was incredible,” Minnaert said. “He’s got tears in his eyes, guys. This is an incredible moment for the Black family. Congratulations, you guys. What a fantastic day.”
According to Rod, the family was just moments away from starting the celebration.
“Yeah, it’s awesome,” he said. “I think we’re gonna start drinking heavily.”
“Welcome to Milwaukee!” Minnaert said. “You’ll fit right in!”
