‘F*ck You, John Fisher!’ Hot Mic Catches Oakland A’s Fan Protesting Ownership While Holding Giant ‘Sell’ Flag Behind Home Plate
The end of Tuesday’s Oakland Athletics saw one fan holding up a giant flag behind home plate demanding the current ownership to sell the team.
For multiple seasons now, fans have begged for a new owner after seeing the organization fail to field a competitive roster while also working to move the team out of Oakland. MLB owners unanimously approved the proposed move to Las Vegas, but that won’t happen until the Vegas ballpark is completed in 2028. Beginning next season, however, the A’s will play in the Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento — home of the San Franciso Giants’ Triple-A affiliate River Cats — until the completion of the park.
Displeased with the turn of events, fans have continued to urge owner John Fisher to sell.
In the ninth inning of Tuesday’s game against the Los Angeles Angels, several fans could be seen to the left of home plate wearing green t-shirts that read, “Sell.” One of them even held up the flag for the camera.
Suddenly, a nearby microphone picked up one of the fans yelling, “Fuck you, John Fisher!” Then, he ran closer to the center of the frame — directly behind home plate — to repeat the phrase while holding up the sign. He was in full view on the broadcast for several seconds.
Shortly after, a security guard approached him and escorted him away. As the fan was leaving, he held up his middle finger and appeared to repeat his message to Fisher. The audio had seemingly been cut and he couldn’t be heard on the broadcast.
