Trump Calls for the Washington Commanders to Change Their Name Back to Redskins in Fiery Post: ‘Our Great Indian People…Want This to Happen!’

President Donald Trump made a fiery call for the Washington Commanders to restore the Redskins name — which it left behind in 2020.

In a post to Truth Social on Sunday, the president — refusing to even acknowledge the team’s current name — claimed that Native Americans want the name changed back.

“The Washington ‘Whatever’s’ should IMMEDIATELY change their name back to the Washington Redskins Football Team,” Trump wrote. “There is a big clamoring for this. Likewise, the Cleveland Indians, one of the six original baseball teams, with a storied past. Our great Indian people, in massive numbers, want this to happen. Their heritage and prestige is systematically being taken away from them. Times are different now than they were three or four years ago. We are a Country of passion and common sense. OWNERS, GET IT DONE!!!”

Polling conducted in 2020 found more than half of Native Americans objected to the team’s former name. Further, vast majorities took offense to various acts fans performed at the games — such as the “tomahawk chop,” and the imitation of Native American dances.

Trump has ripped the name change several times in recent months. But Commanders owner Josh Harris told Fox News in April that there are no plans to restore the former name.
