WATCH: Massive Brawl Erupts at End of College Basketball Game
A Monday night men’s college basketball game ended in chaos when the two teams suddenly started brawling while they were in the handshake line.
Texas A&M Commerce beat Incarnate Word 76-72 on Monday. As the broadcast showed the teams lining up to shake hands, everyone’s attention was suddenly directed at commotion occurring out of frame. Players from both teams started running to the other side of the court, forcing the camera to pan over and reveal an altercation between several other players.
While some players tried breaking up the fight, others ran over to join. Multiple punches and shoves were seen amid the crowd that included well over a dozen players and team staff.
When staff finally got between the two teams, Texas A&M Commerce forward Jerome Brewer Jr. appeared especially upset and had to be taken to the ground.
As the teams split up, the still-tense scene nearly descended into chaos again when Incarnate Word forward Marcus Glover charged through multiple people to get to Texas A&M Commerce players. The players backed up and were instructed by their coaches to go to the locker room.
Several other Incarnate Word players had to be restrained by their teammates and coaches. According to the announcers, a young girl in the crowd was injured and a team manager was left bloodied.
In a joint statement, the teams apologized for the incident and confirmed it was under investigation. No punishments have been handed down as of Tuesday morning.
