Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final between the Edmonton Oilers and the Florida Panthers on Monday ended in chaos as an altercation broke out after the final buzzer.

The Panthers started their two-game home stand with a dominant 6-1 win over Oilers to take a 2-1 series lead. After the Oilers scored their first goal of the night in the second period to make it a 2-1 game, the Panthers responded with two more goals in the the push the lead to three. Then, Florida scored another two goals in the third period to really put the game out of reach.

Before the Panthers even scored their final goal of the night, tensions were already high when the first brawl started halfway through the third period.

Seconds before the final buzzer, Oilers winger Corey Perry exchanged words with Panthers defenceman Niko Mikkola. Suddenly, Perry dropped his gloves and tried grabbing Mikkola. A referee quickly got between the two as Mikkola simply pointed and laughed at his opponent. Things escalated when Panthers center Evan Rodrigues came over and pushed Perry. That prompted Oilers defenceman John Klingberg to shove Rodrigues. Perry then grabbed Rodrigues by the jersey. Two more Panthers players entered the fray to join in the shoving.

At one point, Perry’s helmet came off and it looked like he and Panthers forward Tomas Nosek were about to start throwing punches. The refs managed to get everyone separated before another full-on brawl erupted.
