‘Been a Politician in Washington for Longer Than I’ve Been Alive’: JD Vance Goes After Biden’s Lengthy Career During RNC Speech
Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance hit out at President Joe Biden’s long career in Washington during his acceptance speech on the third night of the Republican National Convention.
Vance officially joined former President Donald Trump’s ticket after he was announced as the pick from a shortlist on Monday – two days after Trump was wounded in an assassination attempt in Pennsylvania.
While accepting the nomination on Wednesday night in Milwaukee, Vance recalled his humble Rust Belt beginnings and thanked his wife before he hit Biden, who is currently under fire amid mounting questions about his mental acuity.
“Joe Biden has been a politician in Washington for longer than I’ve been alive – 39 years old,” the junior senator from Ohio told a rowdy Wisconsin crowd. “Kamala Harris is not much further behind.”
After criticizing the 59-year-old vice president, Vance turned back to Biden.
“For half a century, he’s been the champion of every major policy initiative to make America weaker and poorer. And in four short years, Donald Trump reversed decades of betrayals inflicted by Joe Biden and the rest of the corrupted Washington insiders,” Vance said to applause.
The Hillbilly Elegy author said Trump created the greatest economy for working people in the country’s history during his term.
“Just imagine what he’s going to do when we give him four more years,” Vance concluded.
Vance’s selection as Trump’s running mate has not been without criticism this week, as the former made disparaging comments about Trump’s character during the run-up to the 2016 election.
As CNN noted, Vance once said of Trump, “I go back and forth between thinking Trump is a cynical asshole like Nixon who wouldn’t be that bad (and might even prove useful) or that he’s America’s Hitler.”
After Trump was inaugurated and took office in 2017, Vance referred to him as “cultural heroin.”
In 2022, Vance sought and received Trump’s endorsement in his bid to represent Ohio in the Senate.
