‘Breaks My Heart’: MS NOW Host Stephanie Ruhle Devastated Over Fauci Hearing
MS NOW’s Stephanie Ruhle was heartbroken watching Wednesday’s Senate hearing with Dr. Anthony Fauci, where the former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases plead the Fifth repeatedly.
On Money, Power, Politics, Ruhle closed out a segment by saying it “breaks” her heart seeing Covid being “relitigated” in the way it was at the hearing.
Fauci was grilled on Wednesday during a Senate hearing over the origins of Covid, entries from his pandemic-era “diary,” and lockdown measures taken during the pandemic. Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), who chaired the hearing, and others ripped into the former health official, accusing him of tarnishing his legacy.
MS NOW correspondent Vaughn Hillyard accused Republican lawmakers of presenting “revisionist history” that laid blame for lockdowns and Covid deaths at the feet of Fauci. Hillyard claimed people’s “lived experience” doesn’t match the narrative of Republicans and noted President Donald Trump was holding campaign rallies in states like Arizona at the height of the pandemic in 2020.
He said:
You can’t revise that history that everybody lived through. And, you know, my grandma, she was in a nursing home at the time. She made it through one round, ended up passing from after getting Covid a later time. And there’s a reality that more than a million people died. You can’t revise history for people in that way. And so there’s a certain level of arrogance on the part of some of these Republicans that are asking doctor Fauci these questions, because people in their own families and their own communities had a lived experience that runs counter to what they are trying to hold him seemingly accountable for now.
Ruhle cut to commercial by thanking her guests, including MS NOW senior medical analyst Dr. Vin Gupta, and saying the whole hearing simply breaks her heart and takes her back to the time of the pandemic.
“Doctor Gupta, thank you so much. Just seeing your face this morning, Vin. It takes me back. It breaks my heart. I can’t believe we’re back here. I can’t believe we’re relitigating this in the way that we are. I’m grateful that you’re here with us today. I’m thankful you were with us for all of those days during Covid. Thank you so much,” she said.
