Chris Wallace Dings John Kelly for Undermining the White House’s ’Cover Story’ on Trump-Nielsen Fight
Yesterday there were reports that President Trump blew up in a furious argument with DHS Sec. Kirstjen Nielsen to the point where she was considering resigning afterwards.
A DHS spokesperson was quick to deny it:
The @nytimes article alleging that the Secretary drafted a resignation letter yesterday and was close to resigning is false. The Secretary is hard at work today on the President's security-focused agenda and supporting the men and women of @DHSgov.

However, Fox News’ John Roberts is reporting this afternoon that despite the DHS denials, John Kelly confirmed it happened.
SCOOP – @WhiteHouse COS John Kelly told me this afternoon that after yesterday's cabinet meeting where @realDonaldTrump berated @SecNielsen , Kelly called Nielsen to implore here not to quit over it.

Per Roberts, Kelly confirmed he “put in a phone call” to Nielsen and said, “I hope you’re not going to quit.”
After his report, Shepard Smith brought on Chris Wallace, who immediately had this to say:
“I have to laugh at John Roberts’ discussion of his conversation with John Kelly, the chief of staff, because the White House is pushing back and DHS is pushing back on the notion that Secretary Nielsen was on the verge of quitting, and now Kelly says to our own John Roberts––good reporting––’I wanted to call her to make sure she wasn’t gonna quit.’ So I guess the cover story didn’t hold very long.”
