CNN Cancels Unguarded with Rachel Nichols

As part of its plan to cut 300 positions, CNN has canceled Unguarded with Rachel Nichols, the network’s attempt at doing a sports show that launched roughly a year ago.

TVNewser reports that host Rachel Nichols will continue as the network’s sports anchor and host specials.

Premiering in 2013, Unguarded was CNN’s first sports show in over a decade, and was pitched as a birds-eye view of major sports stories and news. Insiders told TVNewser, however, that the show continued to struggle in the ratings. It’s unknown how many staffers were cut.

The cuts come as CNN and its parent company Turner Broadcasting are in the middle of reducing their worldwide staff by 10% as an attempt to streamline the company. CNN itself will lose 8% of its workforce by the end of the cuts, offering some employees voluntary buyouts and laying off others.
