CNN’s Elie Honig Left Stunned as Diddy Verdict Breaks Live: ‘Enormous Win for the Defense!’
CNN senior legal analyst Elie Honig was left visibly stunned Wednesday as news that a federal jury in New York had found Sean “Diddy” Combs not guilty on sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy charges broke in the studio.
The jury convicted Combs on two counts of transporting women for prostitution, but cleared him of other allegations of sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy.
The verdict comes after weeks of searing testimony, including from Cassie Ventura, Combs’s former girlfriend, who settled a civil case last year for $20 million. Ventura had accused Combs of years of rape and abuse.
When reports emerged on-air that Combs was found not guilty of three of the five felony counts he had been charged with, Honig let out an audible: “Wow! That’s a big deal. Okay.”
Later, after the verdict had been communicated in full, Honig added: “Not guilty, sex trafficking of Cassie Ventura. So that is obviously an enormous win for the defense. It means the jury did not credit Cassie Ventura’s testimony. That’s a huge blow to the prosecution.”
