Dem Congressman on 2020: We’ll Probably Have ’30 or 40 Great Candidates’
NBC’s Hallie Jackson was somewhat taken aback after hearing that Democrats could have an extremely packed field when they challenge Donald Trump for the presidency in 2020.
Jackson spoke to Rep. David Cicilline (D-RI) on Tuesday, and asked for his thoughts on the field. In terms of who he’d prefer as the Democratic nominee, Cicilline didn’t name anyone in particular, but he said “we’ll have 30 or 40 probably great candidates running for president.”
“Forty candidates? Really?” Jackson asked incredulously.
Cicilline stuck by his answer, saying he expects a “big field of great candidates” which will be thinned out during the primary process.
