Ex-Trump and Epstein Lawyer Torches ‘Client List’ as Complete ‘Myth,’ Says Pam Bondi and Others ‘Jumped the Gun’
David Schoen, a former lawyer to both President Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein, blasted talk of an Epstein “client list” as a complete “myth” while accusing Trump officials of jumping the gun on Epstein.
Schoen, who previously represented Trump and also acted as counsel for convicted pedophile Epstein, joined BBC Newsnight where he chalked up backlash against the administration over Epstein to officials like Attorney General Pam Bondi making declarations before she knew what the Department of Justice had on Epstein.
According to Schoen, “there is no client list” of famous and influential names who took part in abuse that Epstein kept. The late billionaire died of an apparent suicide while being charged with sex trafficking in 2019. During his life, he was friendly at times with everyone from Trump to former President Bill Clinton.
Schoen said:
First of all, there is no client list. That’s part of the myth surrounding this. If someone were to think that there’s actually a list — which Jeffrey Epstein wrote down the name of, you fill in the name of the famous, wealthy person with some young girl — that just doesn’t exist. And if there were such a thing, you can be sure that the accuser would have sued that person because they’ve sued plenty of people and lawyers have made a lot of money off of it.
Trump has also called an Epstein client list a “hoax.” He’s also lashed out at his own supporters demanding more documents related to Epstein’s case to be released following a Department of Justice/FBI memo denying the existence of a list and concluding Epstein committed suicide.
Bondi herself made reference to a client list in February, but Schoen argued that she and others who talked up “Epstein Files” were speaking too soon. They “jumped the gun a bit,” the lawyer argued, leading to everyone else playing “catch up,” citing the House Oversight Committee subpoenaing Ghislaine Maxwell. Maxwell was a longtime associate of Epstein who is now serving 20 years for sex trafficking.
Schoen said:
I think what happened is President Trump said he’s open to the idea and it should be disclosed if there’s any such kind of file. That hasn’t been disclosed so far, but he didn’t know what was in it. I think that maybe some of the others, the attorney general, director of the FBI, and so on, jumped the gun a bit. They were in favor, for good reasons, of disclosing and full transparency, but they didn’t know what they had yet. They saw what they had, there was no smoking gun and therefore they said there is nothing further to release of any substance.
Schoen previously said in June, before the DOJ memo drop, that he specifically asked Epstein about Trump when he was hired to represent Epstein in the final days of his life.
“I was hired to lead Jeffrey Epstein’s defense as his criminal lawyer 9 days before he died. He sought my advice for months before that,” he wrote on X. “I can say authoritatively, unequivocally, and definitively that he had no information to hurt President Trump. I specifically asked him!”
